En Plein air, pochade paintings.
A pochade box is a small wooden box made for carrying painting materials and transporting wet paintings home. After years of using various homemade devices, I decided to acquire a ready made one. And quite nifty it is too – handy to slip into a rucksack. This has inspired me to paint more often onsite, rather than merely sketching. Plein air paintings have to be painted quickly, because of the constraints of time, light and weather. I will continue to sketch of course, but this pochade box has given me another option when out walking. On this page are some of the resultant paintings together with some older ones. I've not shown them before, but now have decided to make a website page of them. Most of these originals are for sale, price range £300 to £850 email or phone if you are interested.

One of four 'Corbetts' on the Isle of Arran, this is the highest at 874 m (2866 ft). There are wonderful views from the summit I believe but after sketching from this ridge, I ventured no further.

Threshfield Moor, Yorkshire Dales 11/09/16
This little oil was painted quickly from a memorial bench that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, with Boss Moor behind and Threshfield Moor in front. There was a wonderful panorama of the moors, but almost nothing to focus on, apart from a post, so I just painted what I saw.

It didn't look much from outside but inside was fine. This is the 2nd painting of the apartment where we stayed in Venice, I tried a slightly different composition, but I'm not sure whether it's an improvement. I was sat there drawing it in lightly, because I knew I was going to paint it later ... Then, after a while was joined by two others who began to draw (of all the views in Venice!).

The tiny speckles on the painting are blown sand which stuck to the paint, I couldn't do much about it so decided to carry on regardless, it probably adds something anyway.
