Newchurch in Pendle, Winter - Lancashire
Newchurch, famous for its connection with the Pendle Witches, is located in rather an elevated position and therefore is usually one of the first villages to receive snow. The church tower, which predates the 'new' 17th century church, has the curious 'Eye of God' built into its west side, apparently to ward off evil spirits. This view is from the narrow Well Head Road.

A Dales Winter, Kettlewell - Yorkshire
Surrounded by fells, this typical Yorkshire Dales village perhaps gets more than its fair share of snow. Viewed here from the bridge over the River Wharfe, the low winter sun throws the cottages into greater relief and picks out detail on Great Whernside in the background.
