I always have a sketchbook to hand wherever I am to make rapid sketches. I've taken hundreds off the website (random selection) because it was slowing the loading of it too much!
Between Newton and Slaidburn, Bowland 14/02/21
I walked with W and P along the River Hodder from Newton to Slaidburn then returned through fields to complete a circular. This sketch was done on the way back.

Just before it went too dark. It was muddy but not raining when W and I walked up Moor Lane and lost the footpath on Boss Moor.

It was very misty with a cold wind blowing, so got down behind rocks where it was more sheltered.

A fine and sunny day with big fluffy clouds for a change. And yes, there is actually a place called 'Under Pendle'. It seems to me that it's a small cluster of buildings.

There was a covering of snow which made everywhere look very picturesque. Most of the snow was gone the following day.

Believe or not; a barn owl flew out of the window of the barn then flew back a few minutes later. It was so good to see, it alighted on the sill and looked back, I could see its characteristic face before it went inside.

30/06/18 Near Walloper Well, Newton-in-Bowland.
I was sketching on a blistering hot day from my car with all the windows down when a young chap came over the brow of the hill and made a beeline for me. He had his shirt tied round his middle and must have been exhausted after walking up the seemingly never ending drag from Clitheroe. He bent his head down and peered through the open window, he was about a foot from me and when he opened his almost toothless mouth I could see his blackened teeth. I don't know whether he meant it or not but he said "Does this road go to London?"
"It goes to Newton" I replied.
"I' could do with a drink" he said rather longingly. So I gave him my half full bottle of water and he went happily on his way and I carried on with my quick sketch.

20/05/18 Pendle Hill from Till House near Rodhill Gate Lane (track), Sawley.
Started walking through fields from Sawley, it was difficult finding the way and had to look at the map a million times. The weather was brilliant and the views were very good.
13/08/17 New Bridge near Litton, Yorkshire Dales.
The river was dry on this occasion apart from a few still pools.
The Bridge is quite old really, it's just called 'New Bridge'

It is disused now and and parts of it are designated 'Sites of Special Scienific Interest'. This drawing was done between the two main parts of it. It's the largest quarry I've ever seen.
